Enjoy Tasty New Adventures in Wholesome, Nutritious Fruit Snacks

Health-conscious Sonoma Crisps fruit snacks are made in historic Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California by Snack Salad Marketing & Technologies Inc. (SSI)

SSI is committed to creating innovative, healthy snacks using fruits and vegetables in their complete, original form. Not long ago SSI relied on partners to manufacture and sell its products but, in 2006, as the company's enthusiastic and rapidly growing customer base began clamoring for faster, direct interaction, SSI launched its own facility to handle every aspect of its products, from planning and development to production and sales. Many wildly popular products, including SSI's signature Snapea Crisps, resulted.

Our Story

SSI's headquarters are in Sebastopol, California, a once-thriving apple-growing region in Sonoma County. Sebastopol was once touted as the Gravenstein Apple Capital of the World. The apple industry was so omnipresent in the small, rural town that it provided a stable prosperity for most of its citizens. And because of the town's enormous claim to fame and its need for the reliable, timely transport of its apple crops, the Northwestern Pacific Railroad opened a Sebastopol branch as early as 1890.

During the 20th century growing competition from Washington State and other apple-growing regions caused Sebastopol's sprawling apple orchards to lose value as prices dropped and as other forms of transportation became available to carry perishable goods across greater distances. As a result, Sebastopol's storied apple orchards gave way over time to a popular new crop: Sonoma County's world-renowned wine vineyards.

In the 1990s one of SSI's founders, Kay - already a pioneer at developing unique new snacks - made several trips to Sebastopol to visit a local factory which was manufacturing one of the products he had developed. During this time he met Bob, a long-time veteran of the defunct Sebastopol apple-processing industry. The partnership that ensued from this fateful meeting has become a part of Sebastopol history: Kay, always looking for ways to create healthy new snacks; and Bob, the experienced apple man. Their meeting resulted in the establishment of Snack Salad. Today, Kay is still founder and president of this innovative, wellness-focused snack food company.
